Central District (CDIST) has established the Central District Consultation Group in an effort to implement the Force strategic direction on “Engaging the Community" and to consult all sectors of the community on law enforcement and public order. With formation of the group, CDIST hopes it would improve communication with the community, and enhance mutual understanding.
As Central District is a hub of restaurants, bars and places of entertainment, especially around Lan Kwai Fong and Soho areas, CDIST has been motivating proprietors of liquor-licensed premises to take up their social responsibilities. CDIST is using the Central District Consultation Group as a platform to improve communication with the trade.
CDIST held the first two Liquor-licensed Premises Exchange meetings in April and June, and the third meeting on August 2. The third meeting drew about 90 representatives of the trade to discuss matters concerning liquor-licensed premises and other related matters.
CDIST Commander Kwok Yam-shu stressed that through the Consultation Group, CDIST handles management of liquor-licensed premises and problems of environmental hygiene, noise and nuisance in partnership with the community. He hoped the Consultation Group would enable the Force and stakeholders to work together to manage liquor-licensed premises and pay close attention to matters of law and order.
At the Consultation Group meeting, representative of the Licensing Office spoke of law enforcement on liquor-licensed premises and drafting of additional conditions for a liquor licence, and offered advice on environmental hygiene and recycling of disposed glass bottles.
CDIST Assistant Commander (Operations & Crime) briefed the trade representatives on the enforcement action on liquor-licensed premises and the latest crime trend and modus operandi.
Mr Kwok also took the opportunity to present letters of appreciation to three security staff members for helping the police arrest criminals who had committed theft in bars.
