Wanchai (WCHDIST) has been in close liaison with bar operators to monitor alcohol related late night crimes or incidents. Shortly before Halloween, WCHDIST held another two workshops for bar operators on October 25 and 30. To enhance communication, members of the Wanchai District Fight Crime Committee (DFCC) were invited to join the workshop and share their views and concerns of the community with the bar operators.
DFCC Chairman, Mr Chan Hing-ming, Vice-Chairman, Mr Suen Yat-hau, DFCC members, Dr Pong Chiu-fai and Ms Tam Fung-chee, District Councilors, Ms Lee Kwun-yee and Ms Lee Pik-yee, and over 30 representatives, including the licensees, managers and staff from ground level and upstairs bars in Wanchai, participated in the workshops.
WCHDIST Assistant District Commander Wan Siu-hung commenced the workshops with a brief account of the situation of alcohol related crimes in WCHDIST. He said the three key messages of the workshops were “Co-operation", “Crime Prevention" and “Providing Information", and stressed Police’s determination to curb alcohol related late night offences and incidents. To provide a one-stop service to bar licensees and operators, Mr Wan took the opportunity to promote again the 24-hour hotlines of the Wanchai District Anti-Triad Squad for immediate police assistance.
The participants shared their views in discussion sessions, covering crime prevention and measures to address drunkenness, noise nuisance and hygiene. The DFCC members were appreciative of police effort to tackle these issues arising from the bars in WCHDIST. The bar representatives also found the information practical and useful.
WCHDIST has been according high priority to deal with Late Night Violence. Concerted efforts by the Police and stakeholders have proven effective in combatting these crimes, with the crime figure decreasing significantly in recent years.
